Dorothy Roberts papers, 1852-1992.

The Dorothy Roberts papers consist of correspondence, copies of Roberts' published poems and short stories as well as the notes, drafts, and typescripts of poems, short stories, and novels that document her writing process. The papers also include a variety of reference materials Roberts collected to use in support of her writing: illustrations, articles, journals, and books. Many of the texts deal with themes of particular concern to Roberts, or were written by individuals in whose work she was interested. Visual and audio materials in the collection include pastel and watercolor portraits of Roberts by her friend Enid Cutler and photographs of Roberts and her family and friends. Also included are audio recordings of Roberts and of other notable Canadian poets.

Dorothy Roberts, born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, was a poet and prose writer. She attended the University of New Brunswick and later was a reporter for The Fredericton Daily Mail. She married August Leisner in 1929. The couple moved to the United States in 1940, first settling in Ithaca, New York, and then later in State College, Pennsylvania.
